Crunchy Brownies

Crunchy Layer

1/2 c. flour
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1 c. quick cooking rolled oats
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. melted butter

Brownie Layer

1 package Duncan Hines brownie mix

Frosting

Duncan Hines butter pecan frosting (can also ice with your favorite frosting)


Preheat oven to 350°.  For crunchy layer, combine flour, soda and salt.  Stir in oats and brown sugar.  Add 1/2 cup melted butter and pat mixture in bottom of ungreased baking pan.  Bake at 350° for 10 minutes.  While bottom layer is cooling, prepare brownie mix as directed.  Spread batter in pan over crunchy layer.  Return to oven; bake approximately 45 minutes  in 8×8 inch pan  OR 40 minutes if using a 9×9 or 11×7 pan.  Double for 9×13 inch pan.
